Introducing: Mariechen Danz

Today we are excited to announce and introduce a very special project and unique musical journey: Clouded in Veins, an album by the acclaimed visual artist Mariechen Danz, co-written and produced by Gediminas Žygus, will be released on Monkeytown Records on August 27. Listen to the first single How to Know here.

Mariechen Danz is a Dublin-born and Berlin-based interdisciplinary artist. Her work has been featured  in the 57th La Biennale di Venezia, Haus der Kunst Munich, Centre Pompidou Paris, New Museum New York, amongst other institutions. Gediminas Žygus is a Lithuanian artist, producer and composer working within the fields of sound, film and performance. Their work has been presented at Barbican Centre London, Berghain Berlin, La Biennale di Venezia, Transmediale, Unsound and many more.

Together they have created the album Clouded in Veins, which collects, collates, re-records and reconstructs the sound from a series of performances and installations. The album is conceptually rooted in “Clouded in Veins: a subjective geography” presented at the 57th La Biennale die Venezia and accompanies the catalogue for Danz’s eponymous Ruhrfestspiele exhibition at Kunsthalle Recklinghausen, on display from May 2 to August 29, 2021.

The album is an expansive sonic environment that clatters, roars and rumbles with explicit and obscure meaning, where Žygus applies their tactile bass and post-industrial noise-influenced sound design to Danz’s vocal ruminations on knowledge-sharing and the limits of human understanding.

Monkeytown Records will release Clouded in Veins digitally on August 27 and Vinyl will follow on October 8.
