For a while now we wanted to release a picture disc record on Monkeytown. When we saw some stills of the "Evil Twin" video in production it was quite clear that this was gonna be the occasion we had been waiting for.

The picture disc features the rotten black bananas from the amazing animation video done by Dent de Cuir and the MIAOU Studio in Canada. Modeselektor have been remixing "Evil Twin" for this single in a traditional extended version style and have named it simply a Dub. The B-Side features the second full on club track from the Monkeytown album "German Clap". Please note that the vinyl comes as a strictly limited edition! Exclusively in our webshop you will also be able to get the video with the digital download version.

Over the course of ten albums - not to mention an avalanche of side projects, remixes and collaborations - Jan St Werner and Andi Toma of Mouse On Mars established themselves as two of the most inventive and unpredictable artists in electronic music. But since they delivered the bracing, angular salvo that was Varcharz back in 2006, there has been an uncharacteristic period of silence.

In 2012, that silence is broken. Mouse On Mars' triumphant return comes in the shape of "Parastrophics", a life-affirming and constantly surprising album which is crammed with ideas, exuberance and sheer kinetic energy.

Lazer Sword are the missing link between Modeselektor, eLan and Siriusmo and therefor a perfect addition to the exclusive label roster. We are happy to announce their first release on Monkeytown Records: "Sounds Sane / Klock". An album by Lazer Sword will follow on April 27th and the band will then also go on an album tour all around Europe and the U.S..

After Siriusmo’s "Mosaik" and "Pearls & Embarrassment", Modeselektor’s "Monkeytown" and eLan’s "Next 2 Last", Mouse on Mars will release their 11th album, Parastrophics on February 24, 2012 as Monkeytown's 5th artist album.
Mouse On Mars might have emerged as part of the great 1990s new wave of electronic music, but their restless, irreverent and wildly inventive work has always set them apart from their contemporaries. For Jan St. Werner and Andi Toma there is no division between the cerebral and the physical - they combine a connoisseur’s love of sonic texture with a hedonistic urge to dance. Even at its most complex, their music never feels too intellectual, and even at its most experimental it’s never forbidding.
An album with singing bass drums, screwed up beats, tinnitus synths and some of the deepest bass the universe has to offer, Parastrophics is a thriving vision of the other side of experimental music. Discordance turns into pop as Alice in Wonderland bounces her booty to laser bass sounds, the likes of which would make Walt Disney jealously ponder the question, “Why didn’t I think of that?!” Parastrophics is glamorous, funky and deep. No speakers exist that could display all the details of such grand production.

Did you see our mega limited edition of Modeselektor "Monkeytown" Skateboard Decks? They are certainly fully functional, but also make a good collectors item, piece of art at your wall or simply a great christmas present.

"Shipwreck" is a collaboration between Modeselektor and Thom Yorke, who wrote that track - along with "This" - during a one day studio session at Modeselektor's studio in Berlin.
"Shipwreck" is one of the most particular songs on "Monkeytown" and therefore was chosen as the first album single ((hysical + digital release date Nov 4th) of Modeselektor's just released third album "Monkeytown" (Monkeytown015).
The video has been directed by Tony T. Datis and features an abandoned boy and his fight for survival in a post apocalyptic world. Datis didn't try to translate the lyrics but the whole mood of the track into images and created a dark, but still hopeful vision.

Modeselektor's current bustour with Siriusmo and eLan has been a great adventure so far. 3 last shows left. Tonight it's Cologne, tomorrow Munich, then Vienna. Don't miss your chance to see the Monkeytown allstars!

It has been taking a while, but "Next 2 Last", eLan's wonderful 2xCD feat. more than 20 tracks and remixes is out today. The 2xCD combines all 3 vinyl EPs as well as all remixes incl. 7 previously unreleased remixes (8 on the download version).

During the next weeks eLan will also be touring Europe as a support act for Modeselektor.

We hardly ever give away any free music. Not because we are greedy business men in our expensive designer suits, but simply because we believe all this free music out there diminishes the value of music as a form of art. Some of you already know that the first single from the new Modeselektor album "Monkeytown" is one of the collaboration tracks co-written with Thom Yorke. "Shipwreck" is the most unusual Modeselektor track on the album and so we have chosen this one to be the first single. The song is gonna be released as a classic 7inch single including a nice little B-Side track also co-written by Thom Yorke. No worries, there will also be a download version. The 7inch is gonna be released as a limited edition orange color vinyl (you can pre-order below). The video to the song was just filmed in France. It's being edited right now and we will see a first raw version next week. The video should air worldwide starting the first week of November in time with the release of the single.

The last few days have been fantastic for us here at the Monkeytown HQ. Not only did the Modeselektor album tour start with a big bang in Berlin, the album is about to enter various European sales charts, is in the itunes dance/electronic top ten in some areas (even number 1 in Japan) and is also getting very good reviews pretty much everwhere. As if all this is not enough, we have also received our new merch, done in collaboration with Carhartt. We like it very much. What do you think?
