SSPB022 | Tomás Urquieta unveils 1st single from upcoming project Calatea EP

We’re excited to announce that Tomás Urquieta’s project Calatea EP will be released on March 8th on Seilscheibenpfeiler! The first single “Calatea” is now out on all platforms.

The NYC-based Chilean producer composed this project last year and dedicated it to his two parents: Calatea EP is named after one of Tomas’ favorite plants – his mother always filled the family home with greenery. Inevitably, the sound of this EP takes over the space and wraps itself around the material elements. The tracks are aggressively dynamic and – built on feverishly percolating rhythms, their bassy swing pulling from Latin club sounds and the UK hardcore continuum alike.

Calatea, the first single, takes over with a dark veil. It imposes a heavy industrial, mechanical atmosphere that seems to bring tones of perforators, car exhausts and any profusion of unstoppable and unescapable activity to the surface. The harmonics and bass bounce frantically off the walls between which the listener is stuck, and create a pressure chamber around them. Urquieta holds the keys.
